"The Marche: All of Italy in one region. Sea, mountains, history, art, customs, spirituality, nature, culinary specialties and wine." (G. Piovene, Viaggio in Italia, 1957)

Grotto di Frasassi

The Frasassi stalactite caves are located very close to Casa dei miei Amici. What can be marveled at after a good half-hour drive from the Casa dei miei Amici was described by a journalist from the Süddeutsche Zeitung as follows: "The cold pole of a summer trip through the Marches is definitely to be determined: It is in the subterranean wonderland of the Frasassi caves, where a gaggle of young mining students lead visitors in Italian, English or French or German along narrow walkways to the crystal lake and the "castle," the obelisk and the cascade" - bizarre, magical formations of stalactites and stalagmites, mysteriously but not kitschily illuminated. Hall 1 of the Frasassi Stalactite Caves, open to the public only a few years ago, is considered the largest in Europe at over 200 meters high, with giant stalagmites up to 20 meters tall."

Sferisterio

What the Colosseum is to the Romans, their Sferisterio is to the Macerateses. The arena offers an opera festival in the summer. The festival is considered an absolute insider tip. No hustle and bustle, no crowds of spectators and performances you will never forget. Macerata is 44 km from Casa dei miei Amici and can be reached by a panoramic road in 45 minutes.

Parco Naturale Monte San Bartolo

The Monte San Bartolo Regional Park, with 1,600 hectares of protected land, was declared a nature reserve in 1994. The Regional Park includes in the Marche region the municipalities of Pesaro and Gabicce Mare. The small mountain range stretches for 10 km, drops steeply in places from a height of up to 200m to the sea and is characterized by striking landscapes with beautiful cliffs, narrow pebble beaches and coves and large areas of cultivated fields. The vegetation of Monte San Bartolo is varied: numerous species of trees, red and light broom. Many birds also settle in the park: peregrine falcons, honey buzzards, seabirds, cormorants, herons as well as mute swans live here, but also other animals such as deer, foxes, badgers, porcupines and weasels. There are several hiking trails throughout the protected area. Among the places of interest are also the ancient villages of Gabbice Monte, Casteldimezzo Fiorenzuola, Santa Maria Alta and the wonderful bay of Baia Vallugola. Places of cultural interest are Villa Imperiale, Villa Caprile and the archaeological area around Colombarone, where there is a villa from the 3rd century BC.
