Good to know

Here is a short subline on the subject

You can reach Marche by plane (Ancona airport, 35 minutes from the house), train, car or ferry. Once in Le Marche, you can get around by train (the official website of the Italian National Railways is : www.trenitalia.it ), by car (the easiest way to discover Le Marche), by cab (usually stationed at train stations and main squares; for long trips to rural areas, negotiate the price beforehand) and by bus (schedules and routes: https://orari.trasporti.marche.it/).

Driving in the Marche

Drivers need a valid EU driver's license or an international driver's license. If you are traveling with your own car, you will also need the vehicle registration document; if the car is not in your name, you will also need a written authorization from the owner. Motorcyclists must also have all documents. You will also need your insurance certificate, preferably with an extension for foreign travel. If you break down, contact the Italian Automobile Club (ACI) at 116 for assistance in a foreign language. At regular intervals on freeways you will find breakdown pillars with two pushbuttons: one for medical assistance and one for roadside assistance.

Weather and clothing
Winter can be cold in the Marche; snow can fall at any time during the winter, even in lower regions. Snowfall is usually quite pleasant with a dry atmosphere. The winter sun is higher in the sky and you can feel the warmth well even in cold air temperatures. The snow usually stays for a short time - 4-5 days at most. In spring the weather is quite unpredictable, especially in April with sunny days and temperatures around 20° C during the day and quite cold rain or showers during the night. Temperatures at night can still be quite low, necessitating heating in your accommodation after sunset. Summers are hot and dry. After a few light showers in May, rain rarely falls until September. Autumn is delightful with still good weather, although rain is possible here and there; a warm sweater and rainproof clothing are recommended in spring and fall. The forests turn beautiful yellow, orange, red and brown in autumn and the sunsets are also spectacular at this time of year.

Light clothing is recommended in midsummer; a good sweater and rainproof clothing are needed in spring and fall. Warmer clothing is needed in winter. Please dress accordingly when visiting sacred sites. You can find the weather forecast for the Marche region here: https://meteo.regione.marche.it

Health and travel insurance
In case of illness or accident, go to the emergency room of a hospital. The nearest hospital from Casa Amici is in Jesi. Pharmacies - easily identified by the green cross at the entrance - have standard opening hours, but guarantee 24-hour emergency service on a rotating shift schedule; details are posted on the door or in the window. EU citizens must have an EU insurance card; non-EU citizens are advised to obtain health and accident insurance before departure.

Money
The official currency is the euro. You can withdraw cash from ATMs outside the banks with major bank and credit cards. Do not forget your PIN code. Traveler's checks in common currencies can be cashed in banks.

Banks are open Monday through Friday (8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.); hours may vary between individual banks.

Post office
Post offices are open on weekdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in larger cities also until 7:00 p.m. You can also get stamps at the tobacconist's ("Tabacchi"), which is marked with a T sign.
